Training and developing a team, or individuals within a team, can be one of the most difficult things a business can do successfully.

There are several things to think about when doing this, such as identifying who exactly needs training and at what level of training, considering how each individual learns best and what pace to go at, and also the ways in which you will monitor progression are things that need to be paid attention to before training has even begun.

Developing, growing and progressing individuals are key to staff retention, engagement, productivity and ultimately improved performance. Rather than just paying more or giving more incentives, bonuses or promotions, a member of staff that feels they are growing and learning becomes more loyal than one that is not fully developed into their role.

At Alset Partners, we believe in practicing what we preach. Our Directors, Ian and Richard, have both recently passed a professional examination in which they received a foodservice industry qualification, a CFSP award accredited by the University of West London.

‘Certified Food Service Professional’ (CFSP) is the industry specific professional qualification for the UK Foodservice industry, and has been introduced under the auspices of CESA (Catering Equipment Suppliers Association).

CESA is already an established and highly regarded body within the industry, and their objective is to help improve the levels of professionalism in the sector by creating a universally recognised and respected industry ‘standard’ for knowledge and experience.

Most recently, Alset Partners have taken on the management, creation and delivery of several training courses for some of the leading industry bodies within the catering equipment market and with this, one of the key areas that we focus on is staff training.

With this service, we can help staff to improve on their skills, learn new ones and achieve their personal goals, which in turn will deliver more to the business and ensure success on all levels.

Once we have received our brief, our service is to personalise and bespoke the training materials and delivery methods to achieve optimum results.

Ian and Richard have over 30 years’ experience in the catering industry, and have the profound knowledge to support staff and provide guidance in order for them to succeed in their job roles, which will furthermore help the business to exceed development expectations.

We are experienced at working on online courses to help candidates take small learning steps at their own pace in their own time and in their own environment. All modules are topic related and include key information and learning steps at each stage of the overall course. Small checks to clarify the understanding of the topic are also implemented at the end of each module.

Other businesses prefer staff development using specific training, nurtured to their own requirements and delivered as a one or two-day training course. This often occurs in-house within a group environment so that candidates can share experiences, learn together and achieve the results they desire.

However, one of the biggest programmes we have recently delivered consisted of a six-month whole sales team training course to develop both internal and external sales staff.

This included a culture change programme for management and staff, as well as the creation of mission statements, visions and values and creating a customer services charter for the whole business to sign up to and update daily, providing ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience.

A company may prefer to utilise a personal mentor programme to help progress individual salespeople to a higher level role, in which we work closely with the individual to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

We work to understand and enhance their strengths and use those attributes to improve the weaker areas of performance. This model uses a close personal individual approach, to help each individual get the best out of themselves and to help nurture and develop the company strategy for future growth.

These tactics further help to nurture the individual sales-personnel into new markets to widen the target area, and to increase sales effectiveness.
